There is a Taiwanese proverb: "Doctor's serendipity, Patient's fortune." Here, "serendipity" refers to the destined connection between the doctor and patient, and "fortune" to the patient's own luck (or blessing).

"Doctor's serendipity" has two interpretations. The first is that the patient and the doctor are fated to meet, hence the patient encounters the right doctor. In Taiwan, doctors are everywhere, and no single doctor is omnipotent, but each has their own specialties to navigate the medical field. Each patient's illness and condition are unique, and in the vast ocean of medical institutions, finding the perfect doctor who truly specializes in treating your condition does require a bit of luck. This luck is called the serendipity with the doctor, and when the serendipity is right, meeting the right doctor is the patient's fortune.

Another interpretation of "Doctor's serendipity" is that through positive communication and interaction, the doctor establishes a good doctor-patient relationship and a foundation of mutual trust, successfully curing the patient's illness and forming a good bond.

Therefore, when a patient seeks medical treatment, the first type of "Doctor's serendipity" is entirely dependent on luck, perhaps a connection from a past life; while the second type of "Doctor's serendipity" is formed through good doctor-patient interaction, creating a new positive connection. For patients, both are necessary!
