Xu Bin, styled Zhongke, was a native of Jiaxing during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. He studied under Yu Chang from Jiangxi and had considerable research on the doctrines of Zhang Zhongjing. He was able to grasp the essentials, analyze symptoms and signs, elucidate the pathogenesis, and express himself concisely and comprehensively. His differentiation of syndromes and establishment of treatments were meticulous and precise. In the sixth year of Kangxi (1667 AD), he published a volume titled "Inventions of the 113 Prescriptions for Cold-Damage Disease" (also known as "Treatise on Cold-Damage Disease Prescriptions"), which praised the analysis of the Shanglun Pian and supplemented its deficiencies in discussing prescriptions. He also left behind other specialized works such as "Illustrated Explanation of Cold-Damage Disease" and "Annotations on Cold-Damage Disease."
