bubble_chart Formula Principles
"The Shen's Zunsheng Book" states: "Only injuries from falls or blows, where the wound has not yet healed and is exposed to wind, can lead to true tetanus." The Neijing also points out: "All sudden muscular spasms and rigidity are ascribed to wind." Therefore, tetanus is caused by the invasion of wind evil into the site of injury, belonging to the affliction of external wind. After the toxic wind evil invades the meridians, symptoms such as lockjaw, opisthotonos, and wiry pulse appear. The treatment should focus on dispelling wind and relieving convulsion, guiding the evil out. The formula uses giant typhonium rhizome and Arisaema to dispel wind and phlegm, and to relieve convulsions as the main ingredients; Notopterygium, Saposhnikovia Root, Dahurian Angelica, and Gastrodia Tuber assist the main ingredients in dispersing the apoplexy evil from the meridians and guiding it out, serving as auxiliary medicinals; warm wine is used to enhance the efficacy of the medicinals, acting as a guiding medicinal. This treatment has a certain effect on tetanus syndrome. This formula originally comes from Benshi Fang, which only included Saposhnikovia Root and Arisaema. Later, through clinical practice, Notopterygium, Dahurian Angelica, Gastrodia Tuber, and giant typhonium rhizome were added to search for wind, forming this formula, which further enhances its efficacy.
